The newly redesigned eTrex retains the core functionality such as rugged construction and long battery life that made eTrex famous, while adding capabilities normally found in premium handhelds. An already easy-to-use device has gotten easier thanks to an improved user interface and new features, such as USB interface, long battery life (up to 25 hrs), larger screen, and worldwide basemap, with shaded relief.

This device features a 2.2 inch 65K colour TFT display, a shaded relief worldwide basemap, and 1.7GB internal memory plus a microSD card slot. Both durable and waterproof, the eTrex 30 is built to withstand the elements. Its easy-to-use interface means you'll spend more time enjoying the outdoors and less time searching for information. eTrex 30 features the legendary toughness that's built to withstand the elements – be it dust, dirt, humidity or water, none of which are a match for this storied navigator.

The eTrex 30 is also geocaching friendly, supporting geocaching GPX files for downloading geocaches and details straight to your unit. It stores and displays cache information such as location, terrain, difficulty, hints and description, so that you don't have to take printouts with you.

Supports BirdsEye Satellite Imagery, and Garmin Custom Maps, with 1.7GB internal memory and microSD card slot for optional street, topo or marine mapping.

This GPS is part of the first-ever consumer-grade receivers that can track both GPS and GLONASS satellites simultaneously. When using GLONASS satellites, the time it takes for the receiver to "lock on" to a position is (on average) approximately 20 percent faster than using GPS. And when using both GPS and GLONASS, the receiver has the ability to lock on to 24 more satellites than using GPS alone.

The eTrex 30 also has a 3-axis electronic compass that shows your heading even when the unit is not held flat, as well as a barometric altimeter that provides precise elevation readings, and wireless unit-to-unit connectivity, for sharing waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches.
