2.6" Sunlight-readable 65K Colour Screen

The GPSMAP 78 has a 2.6 inch 65K colour TFT display, which looks good, even in direct sunlight. It also has a shaded relief worldwide basemap, 1.7GB internal memory and microSD slot for adding detailed mapping. Supports BirdsEye Satellite Imagery, Garmin Custom Maps, as well as detailed street, topo or marine mapping.
This GPS stores 2000 waypoints, 200 routes, and has a 10,000 point active track log, with 200 saved tracks. The GPSMAP 78 also features audible alarms for anchor drag, approach and arrival, off-course, proximity waypoint, shallow water and deep water. There's also a dedicated "Man Overboard" button for quick and easy access in case of an incident.
The GPSMAP 78 also includes Garmin's TracBack Feature, which allows you to retrace your path back to where you started. You can also calculates areas. This is useful for farming and other rural and marine applications. Area measurement is simple and fast. Just walk, drive or ride around the perimeter to be measured, press a button, and there you have it. A really productive feature for farmers, botanists, agronomists, graziers, oyster and fish culture, salt-works... etc etc. For farming, agriculture, agronomy, aquaculture and related endeavours, the GPSMAP 78 measures distances and directions between points, and area measurements.

The GPSMAP 78 is also geocaching friendly, supporting geocaching GPX files for downloading geocaches and details straight to your unit.
It stores and displays cache information such as location, terrain, difficulty, hints and description, so that you don't have to take printouts with you.
