The

Nuvi 255 will speak street names ("In 50 metres, Turn right on Evans Road"), provide fast acquisition times through the innovative HotFix™ system and comes preloaded with the latest 2010 Australian & New Zealand mapping!
A new feature for the 255 is Garmin Connect Photos. You can associate your favourite images with saved locations and download new images with included coordinates from
Garmin Connect. You can also create custom points of interest (POI) and set proximity alerts so you know when a POI is approaching, giving you ample warning time for those school zones, speed cameras etc!
Worried that you've gone off track? Simply tap the "
Where Am I" icon to get details about your current location, latitude & longitude coordinates, nearest address, closest hospital, police or petrol station and more! With
ecoRoute preloaded, you can save money on fuel costs by finding more fuel-efficient routes and receive real-time feedback on the efficiency of your driving.
The high sensitivity GPS receiver provides fast lock-on to GPS, and can maintain signal in tall timber and near city skyscrapers. Combined with the new HotFix™ feature, the nuvi 255 will calculate your position faster to get you to your destination quicker.
Automotive grade, sunlight readable, anti-glare display makes it easier to see where you're going. The streamlined design creates a slimmer, more refined shape so you can take your nuvi with you - it easily fits into your pocket.
Garmin Lock - anti-theft feature that disabled the unit from functioning until you type in a specific 4-digit PIN or take the unit to a secret location.
Integrated speaker for high-quality voice prompts, and an internal lithium-ion battery for out-of-car route planning.
This unit is real-time traffic compatible through an optional Garmin
GTM traffic receiver. This allows users in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to get real-time traffic updates through their Nuvi 255 along with suggested detours to avoid the problem. (Additional areas will be added in the future).
The
Nuvi 255 also records a
track log of your movements, which can be viewed onscreen & downloaded to a computer (using optional MapSource software). The track log includes time, direction, distance, speed (at average 20 second intervals), and can output as a text or CSV file suitable for further analysis.
