The new Nuvi 500 hybrid navigator is a fully waterproof touchscreen GPS. It will guide you whilst driving, hiking, biking, or boating. Switch the mode to suit your needs.

For on road use, the Nuvi 500 comes pre-loaded with City Navigator Australia and New Zealand NT mapping, to give you turn by turn directions with voice guidance ("Turn right in 500 metres"). Being waterproof, this device would suit either car or motorcycle.

You can combine the Nuvi 500 with the optional GTM 25 traffic receiver (service currently available in Brisbane, Sydney & Melbourne only) to get real time traffic updates and have the option of being re-routed around hazards and delays.

For a day on the water, simply add optional BlueChart g2 mapping to navigate - don't worry about your Nuvi 500 - it's fully waterproof.

If you'd rather explore on foot or bike, the built-in electronic compass will help guide you, and the unit itself is small enough to easily fit into your pocket. You can even download Geocaching .GPX files and take your unit treasure hunting. With a battery life of up to 8 hours, you can spend all day in the outdoors without losing battery power. 5m contour mapping optionally available.

You can also navigate to Geotagged photos and go sight seeing. The pre-loaded maps also feature over 600,000 points of interest so you'll always have somewhere new to visit.

The Nuvi 500 has a high-sensitivity GPS receiver for better performance and reception - even near tall buildings and HotFix™ to decrease satellite acquisition times. It will even auto-sort multiple destinations so you can get the most efficient route.

The microSD card slot can be used for additional maps and images.
Additional features include "Where Am I?, Picture Viewer, Calculator, Currency Converter, Unit Converter and World Clock. Unique Garmin functions include configurable vehicle icons, and Garmin Lock™. This disables all unit functions, until the you type in a specific 4-digit PIN, or take the unit to a predetermined secure location.

The POI (point of interest) proximity alert feature is standard and this enables Speed camera, School zone, Red light camera and other Black spot data to be downloaded for advanced audible and visual warnings. Unlike other general retailers, we specifically load this data for every customer.

The Nuvi 500 records a track log of your movements, which can be viewed onscreen & downloaded to a computer (using optional MapSource software). The track log includes time, direction, distance, speed (at average 20 second intervals), and can output as a text or CSV file suitable for further analysis. It also features TracBack - to reverse your track log to help you navigate back to your starting point.
