Here is a sample of Garmin Mapsource BlueChart. (I have added some waypoints to illustrate scientific use of this mapping). This picture does not do the charting justice. It is much clearer and cleaner on a Garmin GPS, or on a computer screen running the live program. Because of copyright concerns (Garmin and their contracted parties own this mapping), I cannot reproduce a recognizable area. I hope you can get some sense of the detail available. Spot soundings are shown. The khaki colur is ground above water, the green is intertidal, and blue and white give some indication of depth. The scale for the map is in the bottom right corner.

The marked points are waypoints- I have added some technical data to show how simple data recording techniques can be assisted by the use of this charting.
