 Garmin GBR23 backpack

For field use, the DGPS receiver is mounted professionally in a backpack with battery (over 12 hours of use) and demountable antenna pole. Any Garmin hand-held GPS can be connected for location, recording, and guidance functions. Waypoints and tracks can be recorded to an accuracy of 2-5 metres. Guidance to, or setting out points, is achievable to a similar accuracy. If you connect to one of the Garmin GPS that incorporates a barometer (altimeter) you can achieve similar vertical accuracies (average 3 metres). Check Garmin eTrex Summit, eTrex Vista or GPSMAP76S.

The backpack has 2 data outlets- one to connect to any Garmin GPS, and the other to an optional computer laptop or PDA.

The backpack also has 2 cigar lighter sockets for 12v, to power the GPS, and any other peripheral, such as a laptop or PDA. The battery is charged overnight by an intelligent 240v charger. A 12v charging connection to a vehicle cigar lighter socket is optional.

Garmin beacon receivers take advantage of the free to air service from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority. This AMSA service is active over the length of the Queensland coast, and also in the Sydney, Melbourne, Albany (WA), Perth, Adelaide, Darwin and Port Hedland (WA) areas. You get the signal free, even inland for hundreds of kilometres. For more specific coverage, please phone 1800 666477.
