The Summit HC has the addition of an electronic compass, which points to North even when not moving. It also comes with a barometric altimiter, to provide altitude accurate to +/- 3 metres.

Like the rest of the units in the eTrex series, the Summit HC is a lightweight and compact GPS. A great choice for hiking, bush walking, or international travel. The Summit HC features a new generation ultra-sensitive GPS chip, 14 hour battery life, and USB interface. You can load portions of detailed marine mapping, street mapping, or contour mapping onto the 24MB of internal memory. Other important features include pan/zoom map page, 500 waypoint storage, trackbak feature, area and distance measurement, and computer connectivity via USB.
