On the ground: Optional city street mapping will make your life easier every time you venture into town. The basemap shows highways, major roads, lakes, rivers, railroads and state and national borders to comfort level. It becomes really useful when you add City Navigator Australia, which provides automatic street by street directions, off-route recalculation, and audible tones to alert the driver of upcoming turns. Locate and route to thousands of points of interest, including hotels, restaurants, service stations, ATMs and more.

On the water: For pilots who also like to captain a boat, the GPSMAP 96 has a Marine mode. Using the base map showing a rough shoreline, or adding detailed MapSource BlueChart® marine charts, all the traditional boating functions will make your journey safer and more predictable.
