Garmin Mapsource mapping products (known as digital cartography, or a digital street directory) can be used on a computer, and loaded to certain Garmin GPS products:- hand-held, mounted, and marine units.
Under the Garmin Mapsource brand, all digital mapping allows the GPS user to plan and create points and routes on a computer, using the detailed map background. Then simply load those points in to any Garmin GPS unit*. Points and tracks can also be downloaded from the GPS to the computer for storage, or editing. Mapping detail can be loaded in to map compatible Garmin GPS. Some Garmin cartography is pre-loaded on memory cards, for easy insertion on some GPS models. Memory card maps can be overwritten, but cannot be reverse loaded to computer.
