Just a comment about the new Garmin interface connections (used on the eTrex and eMap series) which are very clever. To ensure positive connection with reliability, they designed a slide in plug, with spring loaded pins. The contacts receptor on the GPS is flush with the body, so there is nothing to break. A simple flute arrangement ensures it keys in properly. There is a little rubberflap over the receptor (in the eTrex), and this is under the upper section of the GPS, away from the removable bits, like the battery compartment cover.

 Serial cable for computer- complete with 9 pin female plug for standard computer port. Also used for eTrex series GPS. Part # LE18

Combination Y cable, is also available, GPS connection splits to12v Cigar lighter cable and Serial computer cable with 9 pin female plug. - power circuit by-passes GPS batteries, and is not a charger.
