Smaller Garmin hand-held GPS Comparison

  The GPS comparison chart below is designed to give the prospective purchaser some ideas about model differences. I have shown some software or firmware variations, that are significant to some buyers.

There are hardware differences in these models, and I ask you to look up the specification page for these.

The following software functions or displays are on ALL models.

  • Distance and direction from current location to any other point in memory
  • Link waypoints together to form a route, to guide you from point to point automatically (not on Geko101).
  • Backlighting (some at more than one level)

  • Number of satellites available, number of satellites received (not Geko101).
  • An accuracy of the position solution (probably relative)
  • Odometer, mathematical elevation, geographic position.
  • Speed, Average speed, Maximum speed
  • NMEA output and DGPS input through the serial port (not Geko101).
  • Australian mapping grids selection (AMG and MGA)
  • Datum selection (3 Australian)
  • Navigation and guidance by bearing and distance to go
  • Magnetic, true or grid Bearings, simulated compass page.
  • Current time and date, battery meter, external power indicator (no ext pwr on Geko101).
  • Automatic breadcrumb trail, or track logging, with backtrack (ability to retrace the track, forward or reverse).
