The GPSV comes with a pre-loaded general map of the Australia/Pacific/Asia area, showing major roads, connecting roads, railways, rivers etc. You may purchase the City Navigator Australia CD rom, and load detailed street mapping for Australia in to the 19mb of memory. This will enable you to load, for example, both Sydney and Melbourne complete, with the Hume Highway corridor.

The GPSV can calculate the quickest, or the shortest route from your current position, to any other location in Australia. The GPSV has a find function, to look up a street number address, or other searchable location such as a sporting venue, restaurant, railway station, shopping centre, or other public place.

The GPS V is one versatile navigator that can deliver automatic routing, using detailed mapping, all in a compact handheld GPS. With the optional City Navigator Australia CD rom, (other countries too) you can load detailed street-level maps with street name and number, locations of public and sports venues, restaurants, hotels and other services.

Use the GPS V to look up a location and it will automatically calculate a route and guide you to your destination with turn-by-turn directions and audible beeps that alert you to upcoming turns. You can even switch the display from horizontal, for mounting on a bike or a vehicle dash, to vertical for handheld use. The GPSV is also compatible with the Garmin Mapsource BlueCharts, which cover the complete coastline of Australia. Just purchase the Blue Chart CD rom, and load the area you require for marine guidance. Link to BlueChart.

Does the GPSV require any installation?

Absolutely not. The GPSV comes with a tilt/swivel mount for the dashboard. Or you can simply velcro it in a suitable place.

If you would like to place the GPSV elsewhere in the vehicle, you can purchase an external aerial, which plugs in the back of the GPS, with a cord which runs up through the door rubber, and a magnetic pad for the car roof. Or you can have it suction cupped on the inside of the windscreen, where it does not have to be removed every time you leave the car.
