The great favorite for 4WDrivers, and those
touring in the great outdoors of Australia.Price. The
eMap comes with major and secondary roads etc. suitable for
inter-town or out back driving, 4Wdrivers, scientists and bush
walkers. Includes surprisingly good detail of many secondary
roads throughout Australia. Just as detailed at Betoota as
in Brisbane. Outback property names included. Upgrade later
to street level detail if desired. !!! This Australian mapping
does not come with eMaps sold overseas!!! Frequently
asked questions for eMap
New City Navigator Australia mapping now available for the eMap- City/Country
roads in unbelievable detail and accuracy
Basic
primer on in-car navigation.
eMap. It's the size of
a small, flat calculator, contains a 12 parallel channel GPS
receiver, and weighs about 150 grams. Even with its compact
style, the eMap boasts a 10% larger display than normal hand-helds,
for showing even more map data. It also has the same power
you've come to expect from GARMIN handhelds- operating for
up to 12 hours on just two AA batteries.
Features:
Find button for towns, addresses, waypoints. "Goto" or see
on map function. Distance shown.
Dedicated zoom in-out keys. Map page shows time and distance to go,
and direction.
Trip meter page with times, averages, maximums, trip and main odometers.
No back-up battery problems on this unit- it does not have one. It
relies on flash ram for permanent memory.
The eMap features an internal map with Australia,
Asia and New Zealand highways, rivers, towns and major suburban
roads. Most connecting roads in urban, outback and remote areas
are shown. Property names are often shown where there are no
towns. The eMap automatically records your track (using up
to 2000 points), and shows it overlaid on the map. At any time
you can save the track in a file. There is memory for 10 separate
track files, each can have up to 1000 points representing the
track. The backtrack over any track file is easy to use.
With the addition of an external antenna for
the vehicle, the eMap can be brought close to the driving position,
so the map background is readable at a glance. It keeps track
of your position within 10 metres or so, with the map zooming
automatically to show detail, or responding to your request
for better scale. The map page shows distance travelled, current
speed, and time travelled. A separate trip page includes tripmeter,
odometer, trip time, elapsed time, average speed and maximum
speed.
The eMap is compatible
with GARMIN's MapSource CD-ROM
World Map. Availability of greater
detail mapping in Australia means that the eMap chips are
updateable from CD-ROM. Information can be loaded so the eMap
has the ability to look up detailed address and telephone number
information for nearby services and points of interest. The
eMAP can store 8, 16, 32, 64 or 128 megabytes of downloaded
CD-ROM information at a time depending on the size of the cartridge
needed for the mapping. Spare
data cards for eMap.
Designed for the hand-held user, or the recreational vehicle
market, this unit will take you from the car, to the hiking
trail, to the beach without missing a mark.
