Smaller than a mobile
phone, climbs mountains, runs down valleys, tells you the speed
of a plane, reads altitude, and rate of climb. Doesn't light
a fire! It's the Garmin Geko model 301.
With a built in barometric altimeter and
compass, you really have got the goods with this amazing
miniature GPS. Functions like sighting to a distant mark
to get a real compass bearing
getting the rate of climb you have
achieved
how far you have ascended/descended over a period, or distance
a graphical record of your vertical travel in profile
and normal GPS stuff like distance to go, estimated time to go,
and direction.
How about 4-5 days of recording a live
track, and the ability to save 10 of those tracks in separate
files, complete with quality elevation data. And then there
is 500 point storage, route capability, and enough features
to carry one always. In your bike-bag, briefcase or backpack.
You will certainly find uses you would not believe. How
far to a point where you can set up camp, or take a break-
how long will it take to get there? Preset routes, backtrack,
and even on-screen games, can be handled expertly by this
tiny handheld GPS.
The Geko301 has very dynamic position ability,
while running a continuous automatic record of where you
have been, both horizontally and vertically. And it is so
easy to have it calculate a back-track, with warnings every
time you come to a turn in the track. Routes can be designed
with up to 125 points in sequence. It will store 500 points,
as well as the 10,000 point track (4-5 days of memory). All
this information shows clearly on the map screen. There is
also a guidance compass screen, a vertical profile screen,
a trip computing page, a menu list, and a satellite screen.
5 games are included for those times when you just need to
stop and relax. Backlighting is perfect for lowlight or night
time.
Points, routes and tracks can be downloaded
to (and uploaded from) computer, using Garmin or other software.
A pair of AAA batteries will give you up to 9 hours of use,
or you can use the optional 12v cigar lighter cable. Check
out the other specifications.
