Some units are merged devices with phone and computer, some are dedicated travel companions, and others are the classic personal digital assistant (PDA). Since our first involvement with Pocket PCs in 1999, we have found the Hewlett Packard iPaq range admirable for field use, or for in-car navigation programs. The screen clarity and readability of the pocket PC type in daylight are second to none. When you consider the availability of extra batteries to support field use away from power supplies, and the versatility of supporting GPS of either CF or Bluetooth type, the HP are highly recommended.
