To make best use of OziExplorer, use "Hema", "Maptrax " or "Geoscience" and "Sunmap" digital topographic maps.
"Maptrax ", "Sunmap", and "Geoscience" digital topographic maps cover the whole Australian continent, and are specially prepared from
1:250,000
1:100,000
1:50,000
and 1:25,000
paper maps from Geoscience and State mapping authorities. |
Digital maps are geo-referenced to use in moving map software. (Geo-referenced means they are geodetically and spatially correct for GPS position input, and for reading position coordinates). They are colour enhanced, and far superior to any maps you digitize yourself. Examples of moving map software are Fugawi , OziExplorer, and Trax. and professional GIS software such as Arcpad and GBM Mobile. |
Johnny Appleseed GPS is an authorised agent forMaptrax digital mapping and Geoscience Australia and Sunmap Queensland Maps

How do maps relate to GPS?
Maps can be in two forms- digital (on a computer or GPS screen), or on paper, the more traditional mode. Either way, the following information applies.
| 1. Maps are produced to model information on the earth's surface. |
4. Naturally, the datum or origin on the map must be the same as the GPS. |
| 2. Maps are produced to scale, so that positions on maps have the same relationship in scale, as the
real objects. |
5. Johnny Appleseed GPS can ensure that your GPS is set to agree with whatever maps you are using. |
| 3. GPS can display and log real positions on the earth's surface. These positions can then be interpreted on any map. |
6. Johnny Appleseed GPS can also show you how to scale, and load or retrieve points between the map and your GPS. |
