The junction of the French and Colson
tracks in the Simpson Desert. This is an uninhabited (by humans)
part of Australia, and is a very popular
area for 4WD tourists. Touring to this region requires extensive preparation
in fuel, food and equipment. Some of these remote areas, are at times renowned
for wild flowers. This junction is west of Birdsville, in the far north
of South Australia. This image comes from Garmin Mapsource Metroguide Australia.
The scale is shown by the bar in the bottom right corner (showing 100 m).
This level of map detail for the whole of Australia is able to be loaded
in to certain Garmin GPS. "Find" function is activated to locate
streets, and street numbers in the GPS. Examples are eMap, eTrex Legend
and Vista, GPSMAP176 series, and GPSMAP76 series. The amount of mapping
that can be loaded is determined by the memory capacity of the GPS.
