City Select can be used 3 ways:-

Digital Map loader allows users to select individual maps in areas of interest, and download them from a PC to a compatible GARMIN GPS, Garmin memory card, or Micro SD, SD, or CF card.

Computer Map Viewer, and real-time Moving Map when connected to GPS

Planning and exchange of Waypoints, Trips and Routes with GPS.

Ideal for loading accurate city/country maps to mapping compatible Garmin GPS.

Many mapping GPS, including portable car navigators, have an SD card, or Micro SD card slot. Older units may use a CF card slot, a proprietry Garmin memory card slot, or internal memory. If you purchase the Mapsource map data, you will be able to load the mapping from computer to the allocated memory on the GPS.

Some units may be supplied with, or require as an option, a pre-loaded memory card. Mapping on pre-loaded cards cannot be used on a PC or computer.

Automatic routing on a PC, and in the GPSV, GPSMAP60 series, and GPSMAP196. Voice guidance for StreetPilot series, Nuvi, Quest and iQue series, 276C and 296.

Land map detail for Europe on latest version. All 6 regions are included.

City Select mapping shows all streets in larger towns and cities. A "find" function allows you to search for any point, such as a shopping centre or sports venue, or a street and number. From the resultant information, City Select will calculate a route from any point, to any destination on your PC, and on auto-routing GPS. City Select shows Highway Exits Information, such as service stations, gas stations, restaurants, hotels, campsites, hospitals, banks, and more.

City Select supports street by street routing on the PC, on the Garmin GPSV, MAP60 series, and GPSMAP196. It supports voice guidance on Nuvi, StreetPilot series, and the iQue series in-car navigators.

The detail is unlocked on line on the Garmin website, or Johnny Appleseed GPS can unlock it for you. Then you can load maps in to the Garmin GPS listed at top of this page.

City Select supports street by street routing on the PC, on the Garmin GPSV, MAP60 series, and GPSMAP196. It supports voice guidance on StreetPilot3 and 2610, and the iQue 3600 units.

MAP Viewer - MapSource digital map products allow you to view a color map of an area, down to a resolution of a few metres. All features stay in focus no matter what zoom scale. You can easily zoom by rectangular window, or scale, or pan to a particular town or point of interest. Depending on the product, roads, streets, rivers, towns and highways, points of interest and other landmarks will be shown in perfect scale.

REAL TIME MOVING MAP. All Garmin Mapsource products allow you to connect a Garmin GPS by cable, and track the GPS position on the map, in real-time (would normally require a laptop computer). City Select only operates in real time with the appropriate licence coded GPS. Details on real time connection with voice guidance.

GPS Waypoint, Tracks and Route MANAGEMENT.
City Select can manually create waypoints and routes, or can calculate a route based on shortest or quickest method, from anywhere to anywhere. This information can be loaded to any Garmin GPS. Or you can download waypoints, routes, and tracks from the Garmin, and they will be overlayed on the screen for direct comparison with existing information. You can analyse downloaded GPS information such as speeds, distances, bearings. Way point information can be annotated and edited. Waypoints can be stored in different categories (similar to CAD layerss).

FILE FUNCTIONS. Each set of map and data you use can be saved in its own file. Mapsource supports all the different datums and formats, so can be made compatible with your local sheet maps, and your GPS. With the zoom and pan functions and the ability to create waypoints, routes, and tracks, it is ideal for planning your next outdoor adventure, business trip, vacation, or recreational outing without ever leaving your house.
