Many mapping
GPS, including portable car navigators, have an SD card, or Micro
SD card slot. Older units may use a CF card slot, a proprietry
Garmin memory card slot, or internal memory. If you purchase
the Mapsource map data, you will be able to load the mapping
from computer to the allocated memory on the GPS.

Metroguide mapping shows all
streets in larger towns and cities. A "find" function
allows you to search for any point, such as a shopping
centre
or sports venue, or a street and number. From the resultant
information, Metroguide will calculate a route from
any point, to any destination on your PC. This route
could be loaded in to any Garmin GPS. Various Metroguides
for major countries show Highway Exits Information,
such as service stations, gas stations, restaurants,
hotels, campsites, hospitals, banks, and more. Metroguide
does not support street by street routing or voice
guidance on GPS units.

Explanation of digital mapping forms and functions
MAP Viewer - MapSource digital map products allow you to view a color map of an area, down to a resolution of a few metres. All features stay in focus no matter what zoom scale. You can easily zoom by rectangular window, or scale, or pan to a particular town or point of interest. Depending on the product, roads, streets, rivers, towns and highways, points of interest and other landmarks will be shown in perfect scale. |
REAL TIME MOVING MAP. All Garmin Mapsource products allow you to connect a Garmin GPS by cable, and track the GPS position on the map, in real-time (would normally require a laptop computer). Metroguide only operates in real time with the appropriate licence coded GPS. Details on real time connection with voice guidance. |
GPS Waypoint, Tracks and Route MANAGEMENT.
Metroguide can manually create waypoints and routes, or can calculate a route based on shortest or quickest method, from anywhere to anywhere on the PC*. This information can be loaded to any Garmin GPS. Or you can download waypoints, routes, and tracks from the Garmin, and they will be overlayed on the screen for direct comparison with existing information. You can analyse downloaded GPS information such as speeds, distances, bearings. Way point information can be annotated and edited. Waypoints can be stored in different categories (similar to CAD layerss). *Metroguide Australia calculates straight line direction only.. |
FILE FUNCTIONS. Each set of map and data you use can be saved in its own file. Mapsource supports all the different datums and formats, so can be made compatible with your local sheet maps, and your GPS.
