This image of the 2156, a class Y6a, was taken in May 1942 at the time of building in the Roanoke workshops of the N&W Railway. This engine epitomised the successful incorporation of every modern device to make the steam road locomotive efficient and available. One of a class of 16, this is the only survivor. You can view her at the St Louis Museum of Transportation.
