Using the Omnistar DGPS Service

Half-metre Leica with Omnistar

Half-metre PDA with Omnistar

Half-metre TDS Nomad ruggedised PDA package

Thales field robust PDA with Omnistar

10 cm accuracy available.

This page shows some componentry for the Omnistar DGPS system for sub 1 metre accuracy.

To the left is the backpack configuration for field use. This backpack can be used with any Garmin GPS, or with any PDA or computer. The DGPS can be set up more permanently in a vehicle or boat. The backpack contains the power supply and the DGPS box, and the antenna is mounted on the small mast.

The Omnistar receiver unit requires no attention from the operator. It is completely automatic, tuning to the reference station with the most integrity for the operating area. Signal cost for one year is $2500 + GST = $2750. This is separate to the hardware costs, shown below.

Info for under 5 metre accuracy.

The Omnistar DGPS hardware is offered in three variations for surveying and mapping work, as well as for aircraft and agriculture swathe guidance. Modules can be supplied for any application, to work with any type of "DGPS ready" GPS unit.

1. Sub-1metre Leica - anywhere in Australia. Leica GS20 or Leica GS50 GIS and GISDataPRO , real time sub-metre mapping and setout system. Comes complete with Omnistar 3500LR DGPS receiver module with cables specifically designed for Leica or Thales. (There is a GPS antenna, but no GPS receiver engine in this unit). Complete with backpack. Allows attributing and field updating on attributes, in the native Arcview system, or with imports/exports to Mapinfo etc. Can set out points or lines perfectly, from any loaded ASCII points file. Please phone for further information. Australia1800 477477. The 3500LR unit can be supplied as a separate item for any DGPS ready application, such as a standard Garmin GPS, details next page. See separate specs on Omnistar 3500LR PDF file. Most users will be able to use the 3500LR out of the box, but it can be configured if required with separate software. Please see the user toolkit PDF file for further information.

2. Sub-1metre for PDA, TDS Nomad or computer, see package below. Omnistar DGPS for sub-1metre positioning, outputs wide area corrected position [NMEA format] to PDA data collector, laptop, palmtop or tablet PC. Includes 12 channel GPS engine, DGPS receiver, antenna, cable set, mounting brackets, manual, and mini backpack. Use with software such as GBM-Mobile, Arcpad, or Open Spatial

OmniLite 132 (specs on PDF) split system (antenna, plus backpack with DGPS module and batteries) has
sub-metre (2DRMS) positioning capability.

OmniSTAR 7114LR12 (specs on PDF) single, lightweight, and robust antenna housing, with batteries in the backpack.

Combine with a ruggedised Nomad PDA package.

Both these systems use Everest Multi-Path Rejection software, which improves accuracy by filtering reflected GPS signals before they are processed by the DGPS receiver. You can expect improved accuracy under tree canopy, near buildings and other reflective surfaces.
