Garmin's latest edition to the popular Oregon series, now with 3.2 Megapixel camera, and 3-axis tilt compass for an accurate heading even when the unit is not held level.
The 3.2 Megapixel autofocus camera automatically geotags each photo where it was taken, allowing you to navigate back to an exact photo point at another date.
The built-in digital elevation model basemap on the Oregon 550 supports terrain shading and route elevation profiles to help estimate terrain difficulty. You can also add optional extra detailed topographic, street, or marine mapping via the microSD card slot.
The new Oregon 550 model boasts an improved sunlight readable screen, with HotFix satellite prediction to lock onto your location quickly.
In line with other Oregon series models, the Oregon 550 also features high speed USB interface (with NMEA 0183 support), 850MB internal memory, wireless support for sharing routes, tracks, and waypoints between similar units, 400x240 pixel touchscreen, fully waterproof to IPX7 standards, and 16 hour battery life.

This new refreshed model now supports a crisp, colour screen (which supports BidsEye aerial imagery, and Custom Maps), high sensitivity receiver, new moulded rubber grips, and a MicroSD card slot for adding detailed street, marine, or topo mapping to the unit.
Up to 20 hours battery life from two readily available AA batteries. USB and NMEA 0183 compatible.
Now stores 2000 waypoints, 200 routes, and has a 10,000 point active track log, with 200 saved tracks. 1.7GB internal memory is available.
Paperless geocaching is supported, and you can even navigate to geotagged photos.
This 'S' version has a 3-axis compass which means the compass still works, no matter what angle you hold the unit at. The 'S' version also features a barometric altimeter for more precise elevations, and pressure trends.
