eTrex 20 Screen

New Improved 240 x 320 Display For Improved Readability

5.6cm outdoor screen that works superbly in the sun.

The eTrex 20x has a new and improved 2.2 inch 65K colour TFT display, which looks good, even in direct sunlight. It also has a shaded relief worldwide basemap, and 3.7GB internal memory plus a microSD card slot for adding detailed mapping. Supports BirdsEye Satellite Imagery, Garmin Custom Maps, as well as detailed street, topo or marine mapping.
The interface is simple, yet powerful. You can store 2,000 locations with the push of a button, and give them a meaningful name.
The eTrex 20x automatically creates a 10,000 point breadcrumb trail as you walk with it too, which means you'll never get lost returning to your start point, or backtracking.
Its easy-to-use interface means you'll spend more time enjoying the outdoors and less time searching for information.
eTrex 20 Battery

All day battery. All day navigation.

Takes 2 readily available AA batteries. Up to 25 hours.

The eTrex 20x can run for up to 25 hours using Garmin's innovative battery saving technology, on two AA batteries.
No battery packs or internal proprietary batteries to worry about.
The last thing you want to worry about when hiking is if your batteries are going to last the final leg of your walk back to your car, or carrying around heavy spare batteries.
eTrex 20 Waterproof

Waterproof and rugged

Can survive 1m of H20 for 30 minutes

The newly designed eTrex 20x retains the core rugged construction and IPx7 waterproof rating of the original eTrex series.
Simply wash your eTrex 20x off at the end of the day, and navigate the outdoors without worrying about it getting wet.
The eTrex 20x features the legendary toughness that's built to withstand the elements – be it dust, dirt, humidity or water, none of which are a match for this storied navigator. The newly designed casing and crack resistant LCD screen are also stronger than ever.
eTrex 20 GLONASS compatible

GLONASS receiver

Twice as many satellites. 20% Faster to lock on

The eTrex 20x is one of the first-ever consumer-grade receivers that can track both GPS and GLONASS satellites simultaneously.
When using GLONASS satellites, the time it takes for the receiver to "lock on" to a position is (on average) approximately 20 percent faster than using traditional GPS. And when using both GPS and GLONASS, the receiver has the ability to lock on to 24 more satellites than using GPS alone.
eTrex 20 Geocaching Ready

Geocache ready

Load the GPX cache file. Head out.

The eTrex 20x is also geocaching friendly, supporting geocaching GPX files for downloading geocaches and details straight to your unit.
It stores and displays cache information such as location, terrain, difficulty, hints and description, so that you don't have to take printouts with you.
Johnny Appleseed GPS can show you how to get your favourite Geocache sites loaded up onto your eTrex 20x.

More memory and better screen than the Etrex 20

My Etrex 20 power switch failed, forcing the updgrade. The extra resolution on the screen is great. Garmin still has woeful user manuals which don't explain all the features, and their support email's answers to queries are so short they are almost as bad.

Pros: Clearer screen is great
Cons: Garmin's user support

Great little piece of gear at a great price.

I am involved in co ordinating field searches for missing persons in my job and I have always wanted a GPS unit to make things a bit easier and to enable a more professional job to be conducted. This little unit is just right for the job particularly when the boss wants to know what areas have been searched. It;s a quick and simply job to connect to mapping software and then download the latest track/s onto the map of the area being searched so that he can see exactly what areas have been searched. (We have a number of Etrex 10s and 20s that we issue to searchers.) This little peice of gear makes things so much easier.

Pros: Small and compact, light weight and wasy to carry.
Cons: Nothing

A great device. It did exactly as described.

My wife and I used the eTrex to position ourselves on a trans-Pacific cruise. The device's basic maps were excellent in performing this function.

Great cost effective functionality

Bought with the Topo maps as a spur of the moment decision to replace my old Garmin Geko - definitely a step up from that! Once I worked out the basic functions that I wanted to use, it was pretty easy to set up the display to show the functions and information that I wanted. I haven't used all the bells and whistles, or even used it for very serious navigation (yet), but I was impressed by how fast it got a location fix, and it appeared to track my movements accurately without dropping out, including under wet tree cover. Delivery was fast and accurate.

Pros: Ability to download GPX files, good information display, joystick easy to use, fast to get a location fix
Cons: A little fiddly to move between screens but that's probably the user as much as anything...

Great to use and excellent value for money

A really compact and well designed field tool that we regularly use in our research to locate historic sites. The accuracy is high and the button controls are just what we needed for field use in dense bush and undergrowth - the screen and maps work very well. The manager at the Johnny Appleseed was most helpful and honest with us, which we still appreciate.

Great value for money and easy to use.

I upgraded from the etrex 10. I was looking for a similar unit but with on board maps. This model fits the bill nicely. Intuitive Interface and easy interface with OziExplorer makes trip planning easy. Nice compact size and excellent battery life means it is an essential piece of kit for my kayaking trips!

Pros: On board maps. Long battery life.
Cons: Small screen.

Excellent unit

Having used many types of Garmins over the years, this is definitely one of the best - screen is clear and toggle is better to use than the touch screen on my last (Garmin Dakota 20). And with my big clumsy fingers its easier to type with the toggle than touch screen.

Pros: Good solid GPS and slot for map micro SD card.
Cons: Colour! Why dont they make them brighter so easir to find when you put them down?
