Forerunner 225

GPS Running Watch with Wrist-based Heart Rate

With a high-resolution colour display.

Now you have the option to run without a heart rate strap because this watch has a built-in sensor using Mio Heart Rate Technology that measures heart rate at the wrist.
Forerunner 225 uses an optical sensor that shines light into your skin and then measures the amount of light returned. Because there are slight changes as blood pumps through your wrist, the sensor detects those changes and uses a sophisticated filtering process to determine your heart rate. A light seal on the back of the watch blocks out ambient light to help ensure proper heart rate detection.
A colourful gauge identifies your heart rate zone and beats per minute in real time: when it's gray, you're in your warm-up zone, which starts at 50 percent of your max heart rate; blue is your easy zone (starts at 60 percent of max); green is aerobic (starts at 70 percent of max); orange is threshold (starts at 80 percent of max); and red is your maximum zone, which starts at 90 percent of the maximum rate your heart can beat. If your training plan calls for running a set time or distance within a certain zone, you'll appreciate this colourful interface that helps you see your zone at a glance.
In addition to using GPS to calculate distance and pace, the 225 has a built-in accelerometer. This allows it to capture distance and pace data when you're running on an indoor track or treadmill, with no need for a separate foot pod accessory. The accelerometer can also track distance when GPS is unavailable, such as when you run through a tunnel.
Garmin Connect

Garmin Connect & Connect Mobile

Auto uploads when paired with your compatible smartphone.

Tracking your data is simple with Garmin Connect for free data analysis and sharing. Simply download the free Garmin Connect Mobile app, and then pair your watch. When you save your completed run, it will automatically upload when you’re in range of your phone.
Additional connected features include live tracking, which allows your friends and fans to follow along and see your stats in real-time. You can also share your activities on your social media sites by posting updates through the Garmin Connect Mobile app.
You can choose to keep all your data private, or share with other Garmin Connect users.
It's compatible with free training plans from Garmin Connect, which you can schedule and send to your watch, for real-time coaching.

Activity Tracking Counts Steps & Calories All Day

Alerts you when you need to move.

The forerunner 225 is also an activity tracker, counting the steps and calories you burn all day.
Plus, it will remind you to move if you’ve been sitting for more than an hour. When you get that cue to move, just walk for a couple of minutes to reset the inactivity indicator.
It features simple button operations and a sturdy, hinged wristband that's comfortable for any size wrist, and the colour display makes it easy to interpret your data at a glance.
You can set up alerts for heart rate, pace or run/walk intervals to help you stay in the desired range. The 225 features vibration alerts and audible alerts, and you can customise your watch to provide both or just one type of prompt. When your run's done, a post-run summary appears so you can see how you did. The 225 also notices if you hit any personal records on that run, like your fastest mile, 5k, 10k, half or full marathon or your longest run to date.

    Very pleased I upgraded!

I just upgraded from a Forerunner 220 as I wanted to ditch the chest strap as I was training for a marathon and the chest strap chaffes :( I haven't looked back!! The 225 has better battery life, (I charge it once a week and I run A LOT), and the addition of the activity/sleep tracking means I have ditched my vivofit as well. The heart rate tracking is practically flawless and you don't need to have the watch strapped on extremely tight for it to work well either. I found that the synching with Garmin connect via my iPhone 5 is much quicker than the 220 also.

    Pros: EVERYTHING :)

Cons: It doesn't come in pink... LOL

works well - simple to use

Having used a 405 & 610 Garmin before the 225 is a simple watch to use. The use of buttons rather than touchscreen (610) or bevel (405) is advantageous. The in-built heart rate monitor is great - those straps were always annoying. Uploading via Phone app is seamless. The only slight negative is the Live tracking capability. Having to carry your mobile phone for the live tracking to work is a pain.

Pros: Easy to use, in built heart rate monitor, seamless uploading via mobile phone app

    Cons: Live tracking
