Forerunner 235

GPS Running Watch with Wrist-based Heart Rate

And connected features.

Now you have the option to run without a heart rate strap because this watch has a built-in sensor that measures heart rate at the wrist.
The Forerunner 235 uses an optical sensor that shines light into your skin and then measures the amount of light returned. Because there are slight changes as blood pumps through your wrist, the sensor detects those changes and uses a sophisticated filtering process to determine your heart rate. A light seal on the back of the watch blocks out ambient light to help ensure proper heart rate detection.
A colourful gauge identifies your heart rate zone and beats per minute in real time: when it's gray, you're in your warm-up zone, which starts at 50 percent of your max heart rate; blue is your easy zone (starts at 60 percent of max); green is aerobic (starts at 70 percent of max); orange is threshold (starts at 80 percent of max); and red is your maximum zone, which starts at 90 percent of the maximum rate your heart can beat. If your training plan calls for running a set time or distance within a certain zone, you'll appreciate this colourful interface that helps you see your zone at a glance.
In addition to using GPS to calculate distance and pace, the 235 has a built-in accelerometer. This allows it to capture distance and pace data when you're running on an indoor track or treadmill, with no need for a separate foot pod accessory. The accelerometer can also track distance when GPS is unavailable, such as when you run through a tunnel.
Forerunner 235 is compatible with GPS and GLONASS satellites to locate your position quickly and precisely whether you’re running deep in the woods or near tall buildings.
You can even customise your data fields, and download watch faces, widgets and applications all for free at Connect IQ.
Garmin Connect

Garmin Connect & Connect Mobile

Auto uploads when paired with your compatible smartphone.

Tracking your data is simple with Garmin Connect for free data analysis and sharing. Simply download the free Garmin Connect Mobile app, and then pair your watch. When you save your completed run, it will automatically upload when you’re in range of your phone.
Concise, easy-to-understand charts, graphs, maps and more let you view your activities, track progress toward goals and wirelessly upload and share relevant data directly with the online Garmin Connect network. So, you can compete with friends or family members on weekly step or running challenges — and compare your results in real time, using the LiveTrack feature. You can also use the app’s wireless connectivity links to receive current weather conditions, forecasts and smart notifications right on your compatible Garmin device.
You can choose to keep all your data private, or share with other Garmin Connect users.
It's compatible with free training plans from Garmin Connect, which you can schedule and send to your watch, for real-time coaching.
Garmin Forerunner 235

Activity Tracking Counts Steps & Calories All Day

Alerts you when you need to move.

The forerunner 235 is also an activity tracker, counting the steps and calories you burn all day.
Plus, it will remind you to move if you’ve been sitting for more than an hour. When you get that cue to move, just walk for a couple of minutes to reset the inactivity indicator.
It features simple button operations and a sturdy, hinged wristband that's comfortable for any size wrist, and the colour display makes it easy to interpret your data at a glance.
You can set up alerts for heart rate, pace or run/walk intervals to help you stay in the desired range. The 235 features vibration alerts and audible alerts, and you can customise your watch to provide both or just one type of prompt. When your run's done, a post-run summary appears so you can see how you did. The 235 also notices if you hit any personal records on that run, like your fastest mile, 5k, 10k, half or full marathon or your longest run to date.

Got this garmin because my old garmin 210 took to long to pick up satellites, this picks them up in seconds! I like the heart monitor through the wrist and the vibrate for every 1k distances and phone notifications. Its great for using with the garmin app, loads of data. Really good for compairing workouts and past goals. Very pleased.

Pros: Ease of use, Satellite pickup speed.
Cons: Doesn't give you massage after a run

Fantastic value for money!

Swapped from a Garmin Vivosmart HR to the forerunner, essentially for GPS capability but also because I generally use it mainly for running. The watch-face is large for easy reading but the watch itself is quite light. It's easy to navigate and operate and I find that the lack of touchscreen on the phone is actually a plus! Not sure about the accuracy of the wrist-based HRM, but it provides a pretty good general indication

Pros: Easy to use. Highly configurable
Cons: It can't make you a coffee..

This is an excellent gadget.

Bought this as a replacement for a Vivosmart activity tracker , and a android capable HRM chest band as I wanted an all in one item. I am now wearing it as my everyday watch. This fits the bill perfectly. The software layout is excellent. I have used in running mode and indoor running mode and it tracks beautifully. When running on a treadmill it tracked my running distance exaclty the same as the treadmill. HRM is very accurate. The Garmin connect app is still lacking, but this has nothing to do with the Forerunner. The activities it tracks is running, indoor running, cycle and other. The "other" could possibily do a few other different activities. But as a running watch it is excellent. I turn the HRM off when not doing an activity as the battery life is a bit limiting when everything is running. I very nice bit of kit that is quite stylish as well.

Pros: Ease of use, HRM is very accurate, links well with other Apps
Cons: Battery life could be better, Garmin Connect App Syncing is terrible

Great Device, each update is making it work useful

The forerunner 235 is a great exercise device. I love the GPS feature. The heart Rate monitoring has had a couple updates and I think it needs a little more tweaking, occasionally is does something strange.

Pros: GPS and Heart Rate feature built in the watch is a great thing.
Cons: Heart Rate monitoring can occasionally do strange things.
