Forerunner 235

GPS Running Watch with Wrist-based Heart Rate

And connected features.

Now you have the option to run without a heart rate strap because this watch has a built-in sensor that measures heart rate at the wrist.
The Forerunner 235 uses an optical sensor that shines light into your skin and then measures the amount of light returned. Because there are slight changes as blood pumps through your wrist, the sensor detects those changes and uses a sophisticated filtering process to determine your heart rate. A light seal on the back of the watch blocks out ambient light to help ensure proper heart rate detection.
A colourful gauge identifies your heart rate zone and beats per minute in real time: when it's gray, you're in your warm-up zone, which starts at 50 percent of your max heart rate; blue is your easy zone (starts at 60 percent of max); green is aerobic (starts at 70 percent of max); orange is threshold (starts at 80 percent of max); and red is your maximum zone, which starts at 90 percent of the maximum rate your heart can beat. If your training plan calls for running a set time or distance within a certain zone, you'll appreciate this colourful interface that helps you see your zone at a glance.
In addition to using GPS to calculate distance and pace, the 235 has a built-in accelerometer. This allows it to capture distance and pace data when you're running on an indoor track or treadmill, with no need for a separate foot pod accessory. The accelerometer can also track distance when GPS is unavailable, such as when you run through a tunnel.
Forerunner 235 is compatible with GPS and GLONASS satellites to locate your position quickly and precisely whether you’re running deep in the woods or near tall buildings.
You can even customise your data fields, and download watch faces, widgets and applications all for free at Connect IQ.

Garmin Connect

Garmin Connect & Connect Mobile

Auto uploads when paired with your compatible smartphone.

Tracking your data is simple with Garmin Connect for free data analysis and sharing. Simply download the free Garmin Connect Mobile app, and then pair your watch. When you save your completed run, it will automatically upload when you’re in range of your phone.
Concise, easy-to-understand charts, graphs, maps and more let you view your activities, track progress toward goals and wirelessly upload and share relevant data directly with the online Garmin Connect network. So, you can compete with friends or family members on weekly step or running challenges — and compare your results in real time, using the LiveTrack feature. You can also use the app’s wireless connectivity links to receive current weather conditions, forecasts and smart notifications right on your compatible Garmin device.
You can choose to keep all your data private, or share with other Garmin Connect users.
It's compatible with free training plans from Garmin Connect, which you can schedule and send to your watch, for real-time coaching.

Garmin Forerunner 235

Activity Tracking Counts Steps & Calories All Day

Alerts you when you need to move.

The forerunner 235 is also an activity tracker, counting the steps and calories you burn all day.
Plus, it will remind you to move if you’ve been sitting for more than an hour. When you get that cue to move, just walk for a couple of minutes to reset the inactivity indicator.
It features simple button operations and a sturdy, hinged wristband that's comfortable for any size wrist, and the colour display makes it easy to interpret your data at a glance.
You can set up alerts for heart rate, pace or run/walk intervals to help you stay in the desired range. The 235 features vibration alerts and audible alerts, and you can customise your watch to provide both or just one type of prompt. When your run's done, a post-run summary appears so you can see how you did. The 235 also notices if you hit any personal records on that run, like your fastest mile, 5k, 10k, half or full marathon or your longest run to date.

Fantastic watch for running

I was able to use the watch immediately as the set up is really easy. The upload to Strava is automatic and the gps is very accurate. It's easy to navigate through the different screens and I love the size of the dial.

Pros: The size of the dial is perfect and not too big on a ladies wrist. All the apps that are easily downloadable. The speed of the gps set up.
Cons: Not found any yet.

Great watch easy to use

This is a great watch, it's gives great stats including step count. It is easy to use and to see the screen. The only issue I have had is that it is easy to bump the buttons. I have recommended this watch to friends.

Pros: Basic buttons and menus. East to navigate and easy to read the screen
Cons: The start stop button is easily bumped

So far so good.

Been using it kayaking with the premium heart rate monitor and is going really well. The watch face looks great it would be a bit prone to scratches so I wouldn't use for general use but perfect for sports. The data transfer is easy however it is a little annoying that you need internet access to view the data in garmin connect and I don't really like the garmin connect software all that much but watch is great.

Pros: Very light, looks good and simple
Cons: The watch is great. The Garmin software for reviewing the informatioin is OK but not fantastic.

A good, versatile GPS watch for a runner who is not obsessed with extra technical wizardry.

I am rather late to the attractions of the GPS watch. My step up from the FR210 to the FR235 still leaves me way short of the functionality of the high-end watches. However, I have all I need in this watch: I don't bike, I don't bother connecting to other analytical tools and the simple Garmin Connect structure suits me fine. My watch needs are simple at the same time I am playing with different interval techniques. I like the ability to program complex intervals at my desk and then send them to the watch. The array of display options can be confusing, and the manuals are a bit light in this area, but that might just be me. I have read some of the angry tales about the optical HR. In the first few runs, my HR supposedly went to astronomically high levels. However, adjusting the position and tightness of the strap solved the issues. Still not sure of the accuracy, but it seems to be reliable enough for me to dispense with a chest-strap-monitor. The only other issue I had was a reluctance of the watch to charge when I first bought it.After a few hours of a blank screen, I had made an appointment to return it. Once last plug-in, more in hope than expectation, saw the watch start to charge. Still no idea why that happened. I know I can spend 3 times the amount of money on a watch, but the 235 has all I need..and more. In summary: I have modest ability, modest needs and this modestly versatile watch suits me. [Also: The seller, Johnny Appleseed, offered a competitive price and good, friendly service.]

Pros: Easy to read screen. programmable workouts, easy-to-use buttons, fast satellite location.
Cons: Optical HR monitor occasionally went haywire at first. Mastering the settings/options is often trial-and-error [manuals and reviews a bight light in some areas].

Awesome training tool

I was recommended to buy this and I can see why! It's fantastic and is really helping me with my running training. Being able to sync it to the app on my phone, I can use the info to target train, and it's definitely what I needed!

Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Nothing so far!
