Very versatile with many features

Hema7 fulfills all the mapping info in one device. The learning curve is very steep but this is to be expected with such a sophisticated GPS.

Pros: Accurate information
Cons: Lack of easy subject access to manual.

Very good dual off road / on road gps

Great service through Johnny Appleseed and quick postage. Excellent GPS pretty easy to use out of the box. Too many features to comment on especially when off road utilizing the Hema mapping suite. Looking forward to NOT getting lost.

Pros: Great size and ability to use around a fire at night to plan trips
Cons: Sometimes hard to view in day light

So far it seems to be a great tool for navigation

The HN7 is being used on our 4x4 fire truck, the large screen & the touch functions seem to be user friendly, lots of functions yet to be tried. Very happy

Pros: At this stage we haven't used all the functions, but it is easy to use.

very disappointing

In spite of the ads, this is not appropriate for 4WD, the maps are far too low resolution. The software is clunky, and the interface to a PC was atrocious--as if written 15 years ago. One software file was defective and it took Hema 2 weeks to reply with a URL to download the defective file. By then I had returned it. Another annoyance, it will not work with a Mac. This is very disappointing because Hema maps are the best printed maps (aside from serious topo maps). Switching between car mode and topomap mode required far too many taps. I hope that the HN8 will be better when it eventually comes out.

Pros: Both topo maps and regular vector car navigation.
Cons: Multiple problems, see review above.

Unreliable and included maps outdated

I have had my Hema HN7 now for just 12 months. I have just returned from a trip to Northern Australia and have attempted to give this one more try. However it still frequently looses satellite coverage and the FWD maps are years out of date making them dangerous to rely on. On trying to up date the maps via my computer the Naviextras program will not allow me to go beyond Step 2. I would encourage other prospective purchases to look at other brands as they could not be worse than Hema HN7

Pros: A good clear screen, with the shade
Cons: Uneliable and the 4WD maps are years out of date.

Have used it a lot. Not much 4wd yet but that will change. The screen is a good size. Did find that the daylight screen colour selection is very limited. Seems like I,m staring at a multi shade grey map. Don't use the voice as I find it distracting. The USB add works ok as well. Have not tried a movie but think this would be handy on a long drive to stop passenger getting bored. I also purchased the shade..Rather poor fitting and not worth the money. The unit would be well worth it if it was priced $300-400cheaper. I would buy again if priced at about $300.00

Pros: easy to use, lots of info, size
Cons: overpriced, limited screen colours

from Esperance wa driving in a rural area 10km from town, using my hn-6 i found the sealed roads i was on didn't changed to my new beaut hn-7 and guess what same result.evidently these roads have been there around 10 yrs. now my hn-6 has never been undated, due to my computer skills,or lack of, so tried the local hema agent to up date, but was reluctant to do so,he said for $70 he would look at of now I feel I would apreciate hema to give me an explanation on this, and perhaps check both machines out,the hn-7 is much more user friendly, although not as more accurate as the arrow comes across a street.

Pros: the size and ability to read it for an oldfella

Carefully consider before purchase

The Hema HN7 is actually 2 mapping systems installed within the one GPS system. The two systems are not interactive with each other. The maps and poi's are also not able to be shared. Only the city navigation system is "routeable", the other is just a copy of the Hema paper maps which allows for the position of the vehicle to be shown, as well as poi's. In operation, the screens of the HN7 are not consistent in operation, that is, to return to previous screen, you may have to press an arrow at other times, you have to complete filling out the screen detail before action and at other times, there is a "power" button to press. The Hema maps themselves are probably more easily understood from the paper copies, which is even referred to in the supplied manual. The city navigator is the standard igo system commonly provided in most of the cheap gps systems and therefore has those same limitations. I am not sure I would purchase this product if I had my druthers. We have used extensively many gps systems (expensive hobby since early 90's) and I think that the Topo map from garmin combined with the Hema paper maps is a far better solution.

Pros: 7" screen Can't think of anything else
Cons: Very overpriced for the functionality.

So glad i brought a quality item

A well designed piece of equipment clearly thought has been given to the practical use of the hn7 event to the quality box the product came in. The provision of a leather pouch for storage of the is a worthwhile item give the need to remove the HN7 for security. The screen mount is a well engineered item and provides for a vibration free screen.

Pros: the ability to re calculate quickly when we have deviated from th suggested route
Cons: The pre dictive text on address inputcan be a bit frustrating
