The Australian Maritime Safety Authority DGPS beacon system
, of which there are 16 stations around the coastline, provide mariners and some land-based operations, the facility to more accurately calculate GPS position, down to half a metre. All this is done in the same time as it takes for any standard GPS to figure a position. The areas of operation are shown in the map above.
Older Garmin handheld units, and some Hemisphere products
are able to use this DGPS system.
